Karen Kilimnik reloads -with brio and ironic eyes- the history of portrait painting with the cliches of our post-modern era and creates an ectastic confusion.

SIX COCKS

Cock Block, 2004
Six silicone dildos

Cees Krijnen, Jason Wallis Johnson, Oscar Süleyman

Cock Block forms the centrepiece, with allusions to the dreamy ceiling paintings of Tiepolo, (less stormy than the Northern skies of Ruisdael - and altogether less real). The dome of heaven cloaks these phalluses, raises or lowers them in a space that it, not they, control. Desire is contained - libido defused. Turnescent in the vault of Tiepolo's ceiling, whose oculus is one with the imagined urethra of this not too solid flesh, which melts (to mangle Shakespeare and Marx) into air.
Spears shaken impotently in a void which disdains the male presence.

I WILL BE YOUR MIRROR

self portraits

Matthias Hermann

Matthias Hermann’s artwork deals with the complex form ov art we called ‘self-portrait’.
He works about the decomposition ov virility, gender questions, about sexuality, pornography and eroticism, about disease and death.
Hermann produces an ironic and narcissic iconography mixing attractive and repulsive energies.
Slava Mogutin wrote about MH’s work and about his body ‘this persistent showing-off, twisting and masquerading of his well-trained and proportioned body is a carnival mirror reflection of BODY FASCISM which has been the central aspect of gay culture and gay mythology from the get-go.

Shoot, november 19,1971
F-Space, Santa Ana, California

Chris Burden

At 07:45 pm, I was shot in the left arm by a friend. The bullet was a cooper jacket 22 long rifle. My friend was wtanding about fifteen feet from here.

A 19 heures 45, un ami m'a tiré dans le bras gauche avec une balle de 22 long rifle. Il se tenait à 5 mètres de moi.

WE WERE HERE (IN PROGRESS)

(W)E (W)E(R)E (H)E(R)E
(work in progress)

'(W)e (w)e(r)e (h)e(r)e' is a work in progress by E(dpf), a kind of self-portraits with the ideas of isolation and absence, effacement and fading, with the romantical aspects ov past, it could be considered like a work connected with psychogeography's projects (developed by Ralph Rumney and Guy Debord, by the past).
The paths we've taken defines us and have changed our mindsets, our energies rates.
But if you go down to the woods today, don't try to look for us, we're not there.
