HISTORY OF GROTESQUE

Three Bears
2002

The Dining Room
2006 - 2007
@ galerie Vallois - Paris - 06-2007/07-2007
Richard Jackson's latest pieces are oscillating "between dry wit and the grotesque". His work is placed under the heavy Duchamp's references. And it's like Jackson was reloaded the painting and the surrealist theories with images and symbols of our post-modern era.
Born in 1939, he's an old school California artist, still in circulation.

DARK WATER

With that new project Wladd_Mutagene features children’s nightmares reports, and uses this material as a base for his graphic creations. These words are complemented with images called klecksoradiographies, a new process mixing X-Ray pictures and infography.
Like a violent journey in the dark side ov the human subconscious.
Show at Lyon, 09/29/2007 at Le Croiseur.

THEORY OF THE DERIVE

picture by the ghost in the machine (c)
In late 1950's, situationist protagonists, Raoul Vanegeim, Ralph Rumney and Guy Debord invented the art ov the derive and its theory called psychogeography, combining objective and subjective knowledge.
"In a dérive one or more persons during a certain period drop their usual motives for movement and action, their relations, their work and leisure activities, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there…But the dérive includes both this letting go and its necessary contradiction: the domination of psychogeographical variations by the knowledge and calculation of their possibilities."

LEAP INTO THE VOID
« with the void, total empowerment »
Albert Camus to Yves Klein
1958
Cession de Zone de Sensibilité Immatérielle - Rituel
Juillet 1962, Paris.

“Following the Ritual Rules for the Transfer of areas of Immaterial Pictorial Sensibility, in 1962, a buyer could purchase a space saturated with invisible blue in exchange for pure gold. If the buyer decided to stop at this point, then Yves Klein would keep the gold and the buyer would received a special receipt that resembled a bank cheque. To fully “authenticate” the transferral and receive a zone of immateriality, however, the buyer would have to burn the receipt while Klein, in the presence of a director of an art museum, a well-known art dealer, or an art critic, and two other witnesses, would throw half the gold into a place from which it could not be retrieved, such as a river or an ocean. Only then would the “…fundamental value of the zone definitively belong [to the buyer] and become embodied by him…” The destruction of the receipt as a legal contract and the useless expenditure of pure gold left the buyer in possession of nothing but burning desire and his own body as a spatial zone.”
